Fierce Disco Remixed
Fierce Disco Remixed was released this morning - the second Fierce Disco compilation available as a digital download on
.
Over the last five years, Fierce Angels have been releasing a great collection of Fierce Disco compilations, all compiled by the main man Mark Doyle and packaged up into a stunning set of collectible triple-CD packs.
This year, however, Fierce Angels have ventured into the world of digital download, first releasing Fierce Disco 3 back in March and now following it up with Fierce Disco Remixed.
Fierce Disco Remixed is available for download from
for just £7.99 which includes 45 unmixed DJ-friendly tracks plus the 3 mixes as individual tracks at the end.
Not one to overlook the more popular CD market, Fierce Angels will be pressing just 100,000 CD copies of Fierce Disco Remixed so if you’re after a limited edition CD, make sure you pick up your copy quickly. Amazon are selling Fierce Disco Remixed for £9.98 (not including delivery), Play for £10.99 with free delivery and HMV for £9.99 with free UK delivery.
Fierce Disco Remixed is, in summary, a “best of” compilation from the last 5 years of releases. If I’m brutally honest, I’m not normally a fan of Best Of’s as I tend to lean on Fierce Angels for inspiration, delivering new and upcoming music that I haven’t heard elsewhere. That said, Fierce Disco Remixed is probably the only compilation I’ve heard in a long time that will get constantly played.
Mark Doyle has selected what could arguably be the ultimate collection of funky house. He’s mixed up some of his all-time favourites such as Praise Cats “Shined On Me” with some of my all-time favourites like the Bassmonkey’s “The Answer“. All the regulars are in there too such as Bonnie Bailey, Peyton, Buzzjunkies, Freemasons, Eric Kupper and Wideboys.
Each CD has a slightly different play on the disco house genre, all mixed by Mr Doyle himself for that added personal touch. I’m glad Mark has been a bit more creative with some of the transitions in this compilation too, making the most of the musical hooks of these disco house classics. It makes a pleasant change to Hed Kandi’s factory settings they tend to stick to.

Doug’s Disco Brain
One of my all time favourite house producers from the last twenty years is Dave Lee.
You may not know him by that name but I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve heard one or more of his tunes. He’s been known to saunter around the dance charts in many different guises such as Joey Negro, Sessomatto, Z Factor, Jakatta, Raven Maize, Akabu - the list goes on!
Last month, he released a compilation of material he’s created under one of his cheekier pseudonyms, Doug Willis. (Don’t get him mixed up with that Ozzy soap character who fathered another wannabe popstar.)

Throughout the previous twenty years, Dave has been releasing some outstanding productions as Doug Willis. The sound is a lot more disco heavy compared to his other material but don’t let that put you off - in my opinion, Dave is one of the finest disco house producers on the circuit and this eclectic collection confirms just that.
It still holds some of his trademark samples that you tend to notice now and then and with backing from some stunning vocalists, you’re sure to find a few firm favourites among the 2 disc set.
My personal favourites include “Shake“, “Gotta Thing“, “Get Down Tonight” and “Doug’s Place” but that’s being picky. All 21 tracks on the album are worthy in their own right.
