French Kissing Flawless Recordings

without comments

Today sees the first release on a new independent house music digital record label in the UK, Flawless Recordings.

The newly formed division within the Flawless brand is expecting to make a huge impact with its debut track, Fuzed ft Lia Rae - French Kissing.

Flawless have delivered an exceptionally strong first release, which has surprised many industry professionals from what they have pulled out of the bag. With remixes from the flawless Reza, personal favourites Bassmonkeys, Stereo Jackers, Trilogy Project, Audio Vandals and Hi Volume, there’s a style to suit all fans of house music.

After carefully distributing its promo release to its A-List of global artists, the uptake from DJs has been quite overwhelming and has already created a stir.

I’ve been loving the track since I heard it a few weeks ago, so much so the Bassmonkeys Remix was featured in Funky House Finesse 25 and the Trilogy Project remix has been lined up for this week’s show (Funky House Finesse 26).

To celebrate the release, Flawless are holding one of their prestigious nights at Mango in Reading, Berkshire. With a live PA of French Kissing from the talented Lia Rae and an unmissable two hour set from Danny and Mike off of the Bassmonkeys, it’s sure to be a top night.

French Kissing is available to buy from today on the following digital stores:

Flawless Recordings has been created by Flawless directors Steve Westover, Tom Upton and Mark Masters (the latter two are also behind the hugely popular House Music Podcasts) each adding there unique expertise to the label. Flawless Recordings is part of the new generation of labels pushing and breaking through new producers & artists and aims to provide the worlds finest DJs with fresh, innovative and up-coming talent.

I’m personally looking forward to what the future holds for Flawless Recordings and hear there is an amazing followup to French Kissing from one of my all-time favourite vocalists. The early sample sounds hot so keep your eyes on my Twitter stream for an early exclusive.

One Phat DJ goes solo

with one comment

For a long time, this website became dominated with content for the One Phat DJ Podcast. While it was good regular content about fresh funky house music, it was distracting from my main focus in life - the Web and digital media.

The One Phat DJ website has been available for quite a few years now - the first instance was setup way back in 2001 - but has usually been a single page pointing visitors to the podcast and connecting services such as Twitter , Facebook and Last FM.

A few months back, I decided it was time to migrate all One Phat DJ content to a dedicated website to highlight a clear distinction between my two different “guises”.

With the introduction of the Funky House Finesse brand and a regular slot secured on Lifted Radio, I gave myself a weekend to setup a basic website using my favoured CMS WordPress, plugging in all the existing content with minimal effort.

One Phat DJ website

The project is evolving (like most good websites) and is sure to grow over the coming months but, for the time being, if you are more interested in the musical side of my life than the digital media, I suggest you pop on over to the One Phat DJ website, put it in your bookmarks and download the archive of mixes directly from there.

Funky House Finesse with One Phat DJ on Lifted Radio

After nearly four years of podcasting, sharing the latest funky house tunes in their mixed-up glory, One Phat DJ has finally secured a regular radio slot on internet radio station Lifted Radio.

The first radio show will be broadcast on Saturday 9th May 2009 from 4-6pm (British Summer Time) live on Lifted Radio, the perfect warmup slot to your Saturday night. The radio show will then continue every fortnight at the same time and place.

To be sure you don’t forget to listen live, why not subscribe to the Google Calendar (or as iCal if you’re that way inclined) for SMS or email alerts 15 minutes before the show starts?

Thankfully, Lifted Radio are ahead of the game when it comes to their broadcasting arrangements and also archive all their broadcasts for 3 months with individual podcasts for all the shows on their website.

To be sure you don’t miss a single show, you can subscribe to the Funky House Finesse podcast on Lifted Radio in iTunes so all the future shows are downloaded straight to your computer once the show has aired.

You can always join other listeners of the show online such as on the Funky House Finesse Facebook group. Why not let everyone know what you think, share photos and videos of how you’re listening to the show? Let’s make this a big event!

Finally, I’d like to thank the guys at Lifted Radio for giving me this opportunity. It’s an honour to join the ranks of such esteemed DJs and I’ll be forever grateful for being regarded as one of them.

Funky House Finesse 2 (April 2009)

with 3 comments

According to Feedburner statistics, the first Funky House Finesse was downloaded over 10,000 times - that is more than double of any single episode of the One Phat DJ Podcast. It just goes to show that funky house is still hugely popular online and there is a market for it.

The problem is this: I know that only a tiny minority of that figure actually spent money on the featured tracks. Naughty, naughty!

The reason Funky House Finesse is produced is to promote the latest funky house tunes to everyone, especially those tracks that don’t get prime time coverage but deserve it. Seriously, if you’re enjoying the tunes, reward the artists and producers for their efforts by purchasing the track. Nearly all the tracks featured are linked to legal download websites where you can buy the track, normally for about £1.

With the lecture out the way, let’s move on to the second show from the Funky House Finesse series.

Featuring some monster tracks from the likes of Bassmonkeys, De’lacy, Jay J, One Foot In The Groove, Rudenko, Bimbo JonesRicky Luchini, Moony and a sexy remix by Jazz N Groove of Soulsearcher’s classic “Can’t Get Enough” kicking the show off, you’re in for 90 minutes of pure class mixed up by your resident One Phat DJ.

As before, the show will only be available to download for 1 month so make sure you don’t delay and download it right away.

Funky House Finesse 2 will also be broadcast on Lifted Radio soon. Dates and times are still to be confirmed but I am over the moon about landing the slot. I’ve been keen to broadcast the Funky House Finesse shows since the start and its an honour that Lifted Radio have offered me the slot. I’ll be sure to announce where and when you can check it out.

Talking of Lifted Radio, good friend Paul Velocity who also hosts a fortnightly show every Thursday afternoon kindly allowed me to sort out a guest mix a few weeks back. Thankfully, you can download and listen to the Platform Six show any time you want as all the shows are archived in a podcast. Check it out - I start about 25 minutes in.

Finally, if you enjoy the Funky House Finesse series, how about contributing to the production and download costs? A lot of work goes into the show behind the scenes and those downloads don’t come for free - bandwidth for 10,000 MP3s over 100MB in size isn’t cheap so if you’re feeling generous, how about donating to the cause via PayPal? Click the button below.

With all that said and done, I present to you Funky House Finesse 2 (April 2009).

Don’t forget to send us feedback on the show and spread the word. Even a mention on Facebook or Twitter will do the job.
