Biography
My name is Simon Jobling and I am an experienced Web Developer who is passionate about Web Standards and getting the full potential out of the Internet. I have been developing on the Web since 1996 and have long had a passion for digital media from the age of 9.
In my younger years, I spent a lot of time experimenting with computer-generated imagery, particularly with 3D graphics and animations in applications such as Extreme 3D, AutoDesk Animator and Paintshop Pro.
It was in 1996 when I discovered the Internet and decided I want to be a part of it. I was completely self-taught back then through the few books available and online resources but it didn’t stop me from pushing the boundaries at the time.
After finishing school with all the appropriate qualifications available in Computing, Media and Business Studies, it was time to progress my skills to the next level with a degree in Interactive Multimedia at Staffordshire University.
During these academic years, an ideal opportunity became available to experience the Web industry first hand at a renowned Web agency in Birmingham called Webmastermedia. My personal skills escalated during that year and I became an invaluable member to the company, so much so that the company kept me on during my final year of university and continued my employment after.
In 2003, I decided I needed a change in employment and quickly found a position as a Systems Developer at West Midlands Fire Service. I had many responsibilities such as maintaining and developing the corporate Intranet, designing the public website, as well as managing websites for other emergency service projects.
I have long been passionate about freelancing and have developed numerous websites throughout my history on the Internet. As well as creating an online presence for a variety of clients, I have also developed several personal projects, normally around topics that I have a particular interest in. I have a huge passion for online media, especially with Web Standards, and aim to deliver the most accessible, usable, well-designed websites possible. Away from the Internet, I am also passionate about house music, DJing, movies, sports and my family. I am a very sociable, friendly, approachable person and I hope this is portrayed through my work and personal life. I also run a regular blog which allows me to communicate with friends, family and clients about the Web industry, other forms of media and music. It is also home to the podcast of my alter-ego, One Phat DJ.
